Peter Stohler (born in Belp, Switzerland, in 1967) is an art and film historian based in Zurich. He was curator and director at several museums and art spaces in Zurich, Altdorf and Geneva, as well as representative for cultural affairs at the Department of Culture Canton Basel-Stadt, before becoming director and senior curator at the Kunst(Zeug)Haus Rapperswil-Jona in 2013. Here, he curated the group exhibitions ‘Silber’, ‘Collage’, ‘Nordwestwind’, ‘Y’a pas le feu au lac’ and several solo exhibitions, featuring Maya Bringolf, Karim Noureldin, Hugo Suter, Tamara Hauser, Philomène Hoel, Linda Costales/Luca Gräni and Steven Schoch. He has published numerous texts in the areas of contemporary art, design and everyday culture. These include ‘Body Extensions’ (2004), ‘Radar: Texts on Contemporary Art’ (2007), and ‘Tomograph’ (2009, a collection of interviews) as well as ‘in_visible limits: Grenzgänge in Kunst und Gesellschaft’ (2017) and ‘From Anselm to Zilla: The Peter and Elisabeth Bosshard Collection’ (October 2017).
